George Alvin Urbanek, age 82, passed away peacefully on Thursday, the 18th of February 2021, in Wharton, Texas.  George was born on the 8th of December 1938, in Angleton, Texas.  He spent his career in the automotive industry, first as a mechanic before moving into the parts department of the dealership where he worked.  George was a craftsman, who could often be found working on a project.  After retirement, he spent time in his workshop building with wood and making swings, bird feeders, some type of jig or fixture.  His favorite store was Harbor Freight and upon visiting, purchased a tool or piece of equipment whether he needed it or not.  He loved his Czech heritage, and he and his wife attended many polka dances.  Although George was not active in an organization, he was loyal to his employer and gave his full attention and support to his family.  He took his family on many fishing, RV camping and vacation trips.  He was self-reliant and industrious and instilled the same in his son.  Despite the challenges of aging, George never waivered in his Catholic faith.  He had a good sense of humor which was evident in his witty, spontaneous one liners.  George married Adeline Danish on the 4th of February 1967. The couple started their life together in Hungerford, Texas before relocating to Wharton, Texas.  George is survived by his loving wife, Adeline; his son Frank and wife Gemma; his four grandchildren: Zigmund, Carmela, Gerard and Urban. The Mass of Christian Burial is to be conducted at ten o'clock in the morning on Thursday, the 25th of February at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 516 South Faires, Flatonia, Texas.  Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family at nine o'clock in the morning prior to the Holy Mass where the recitation of the Holy Rosary is to commence at nine-thirty. In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests memorial contributions in honor of George be directed to the Featherock Conference Center, 934 Holub Rd, Schulenburg, Texas 78956.
