Tomas Contreras

Tomas Contreras, age 90, passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by family on August 21, 2025. He was born March 7, 1935 in Mexico to the late Jose Contreras and Teodiosa Ramos Contreras. Tomas was a hardworking man that always provided for his family. He enjoyed being home surrounded by them; especially the grandkids. He was a huge fan of boxing entertainment, and enjoyed singing and whistling tunes in his free time.

Tomas is preceded in death by his parents Jose and Teodiosa Contreras; his wife Sofia Contreras; Son, Sergio Contreras; Daughter-in-law, Maria Contreras (late wife of Juan); Son-in-law, Gregorio Vargas (late husband of Rita); Siblings, Josefina Contreras, Rosario Contreras, Vicenta Contreras and Jacobo Contreras.

Tomas is survived by his children; Sons, Juan Antonio Contreras, Gildardo Contreras and wife Maria; Daughters, Rita Vargas, Marisela Garcia and husband Isidro; 23 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren. Tomas was loved and will always be missed.

Serving as pallbearers will be Gildardo Contreras, Mario Contreras, Raul Contreras, Francisco Garcia, Cecil Garza, Sergio Contreras, Eleasar Gomez and Zachary Vargas. Honorary pallbearers will be Isidro Garcia, James Williams, Mario Junior Chihuahua, and Joshua Contreras.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 5 until 6pm followed by a short devotional at Wheeler Funeral Home on Thursday, August 28, 2025. The funeral service will be held at LV Church, 2605 W. Loop, El Campo, on Friday, August 29, 2025 at 10:00 am with Pastor Moises Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow at LaColonia Cemetery.

Also, the family wishes to thank Houston Hospice for the wonderful care given to Tomas Contreras.
