In Loving Memory of Lydia Yackel

Our beloved Lydia Ann Yackel, 85, of Louise, Texas, passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2025, in Houston, Texas. She was born on August 3, 1940, to Pete and Susan (Cardenas) Garcia in Louise, Texas.

Lydia married the love of her life, George Yackel, and together they shared many wonderful years filled with laughter, family, and memories that will last forever. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who poured her heart into caring for the people she loved most.

She is survived by her daughters Janey Mouret and husband Bob Mouret, Michelle Sandoval and husband Gabe Sandoval; her grandchildren Marc Mouret, Samantha Mouret, Cody Mouret, Shelby Stehno, Haley Stehno, McKenzie Stehno, Logan Stehno, and Peityn Sandoval; and her great-grandchildren Alana, Ryan, Ryder, Khaly, Zoey, Lily, Chloe, Camille, River, Rain and Cassidy.

She was preceded in death by her brothers Chris Garcia and Thomas Garcia, and sister-in-law Alice Garcia. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Linda Garcia, who shared a close and loving bond with her.

Lydia had the biggest heart and the warmest smile. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, going shopping, and enjoying meals out with her family. She was always in the kitchen cooking something delicious and making sure everyone was taken care of. Holidays were her favorite time of year, when the house was full, and she could be surrounded by her loved ones.

Despite her health challenges, Lydia always stayed strong and never stopped fighting to be here with her family. Her strength, love, and faith will continue to inspire us every day.

McKenzie's Reflections

Lydia enjoyed being in her kitchen, and providing love filled meals for her family. She had household recipes passed down from her mom, ranging from homemade flour tortillas, tamales, chicken and dumplings, and the best cornbread dressing around.

When she wasn’t busy cooking, she was busy cleaning up and tending to the house (and no one but her could do it right.) And on the off chance she wasn’t doing either of these things, she enjoyed only the best shows on tv, a few of them include: Baggage, Family Feud, Steve Wilkos, Judge Judy, The Bold and the Beautiful, and many more.

And if you could not find Lydia at home, she could always be found shopping around town, going to as many stores as she could. She loved taking trips anywhere and everywhere, even if it meant not buying anything. A spot light of her favorite stores includes Cato, Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Jc Pennys, and Dillards, just to name a few.

Besides shopping, she enjoyed gardening and tending to her beautiful red, yellow, and pink roses, hibiscus bushes, orange tree, and aloe plants that could be found planted in her garden beds.

Found along side her garden, were her chickens. For the time that she had them, she loved being out in the yard to feed them and watch them pick at the ground. Which at the right season, she would be beside them, picking up pecans on the ground from her pecan tree.

More than anything, Lydia enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Going out to eat with them was one of her many joys. Pair that along with making a few stops at nearby stores, and it was her definition of a perfect day.

Lydia will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Her love will live on in the hearts of everyone who was lucky enough to know her.
