It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Keith Wayne Matcheski, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend. He left this world on October 8, 2025, at the age of 63. He was born on September 18, 1962, in Eagle Lake, Tx to Charlie “Bill” and Wanda Scott Matcheski. He was especially close with his sister; Lisa and they spent a lifetime being the best of friends and they made some incredible memories together along the way. He enjoyed growing up in a large family of cousins, aunts and uncles and one of his favorite past times was the Matcheski family summer vacation stays at Heidelberg Lodges.

Keith started his oil field career at the age of 18 with a friend working offshore out of Louisiana and quickly learned he preferred work over rigs and transitioned to El Campo and started with Brother’s Well Service and then to Pride Petroleum. Over his 43-year oilfield career he was well known for his strong work ethic, his quick wit, his loyalty and his bold outgoing character - there was rarely a dull moment when he was on location. The oilfield is a family, and he carried those friendships close to heart with him all his life.

The oilfield allowed Keith to provide a solid foundation for his family through his hard work ethic, his sacrifice and his dedication. His family was always the greatest love of his life and brought him the most joy. He was happiest being home and in their presence. Keith and his wife, Debbie, shared their first date at Matagorda Beach at the young ages of 20 and 19. Life led them apart at the time, but 15 years later they would cross paths again and from that moment on they merged their two families and built a life they loved. The bond he shared with his children was a true source of pride and joy for Keith, cherishing every phone call and moment spent together. His wisdom, guidance, love and humor was the steady rock in their lives. His grandchildren were the true apples of his eye, they had him wrapped around their fingers and he loved every second of it. He was usually their favorite accomplice in whatever mischief they found themselves in.

Keith never met a stranger and was always the most present person in the room. Outside of work he enjoyed riding horses and working cattle with his friends, dancing with Debbie to country music, sharing stories of all of his life’s adventures, a round of golf at the local course, sharing a cold drink at his favorite place- The Shop, fishing in Matagorda, and of course his devotion and love for the Texas Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys. He was as mischievous as he was kind. He was always so good at stirring the pot but would also be the first one to give you the shirt off his back. He had a big heart and a generous spirit. His home was always open for family and his children’s friends over the years, and he always made sure everyone was taken care of. He worked hard, he played hard, he loved fully, and he gave everything he had in this life. He was many things to many people, leaving behind a Keith size hole in our lives that can never be filled.

Keith is survived by his mother, Wanda (Larry) Davidson, sister, Lisa Colgin, his wife, Debbie, his children, Crystal and Jesse Lee, Cheyenne and Rayburn Smith, Kim House, Christopher and Ashley Russell and Mitchell and Stephanie Melnar; Grandchildren, Cameron Lee, Charlotte Smith, Hunter House, Jase Russell, Zavior Melnar, Ryleighn Melnar and Weston Melnar; and great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his father, Charlie “Bill” Matcheski.
