Helen Rodriquez Escobar, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025 at the age of 89. She was born in Wharton, Texas on July 30, 1935 to the late Gregorio and Victoria Ruiz Rodriquez. She participated in basketball and volleyball as a high school student. She was a seamstress for many years at Isaacson and Carrico Mfg. Helen was a faithful member of the Catholic Daughters and a supporter of St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. She enjoyed cooking, shopping and dancing, as well as traveling, especially to Progresso Mexico to shop and visit.
She is survived by her sons; Reynaldo Escobar (Linda) of Wharton, Oscar Escobar, Jr. (Lena) of El Campo; brother, Gregorio Rodriquez, Jr (Pam) of Virginia; sister, Lydia Garza of Hillje. She is also survived by grandchildren, Rachel Escobar, Kristopher Escobar (Rachel), Katherin Drapela (Lee) and great grandson; Luke Escobar and great granddaughter, Sidney Escobar as well as nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Escobar, Sr.
Friends and relatives are invited to her visitation on Wednesday, May 14th from 11 – 12 noon at Wheeler Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited at 12 noon with her funeral service beginning at 12:30 pm. Burial will be at Holy Cross Memorial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be Charlie Escobar, Christopher Escobar, Lee Drapela, Ronald Escobar, Raphael Escobar, Brent Torres and Bradley Torres. Honorary pallbearers will be James Novak, Vincent Morales, Chad Beldin and David Rodriquez.
