Diego Cortez

Diego Cortez passed away August 14, 2023 in Ganado at the age of 76. He was born July 21, 1947 in Victoria, Texas to the late Refugio and Margaret Hernandez Cortez. Diego made a living most of his years as a truck driver until he retired in 2002. He had a love for his kids, his Beloved Wife, animals and ttuck driving. He also loved to listen to his Good Ol' country and Tejano music with his "Cowboy Cool" Bud Light. He enjoyed raising and selling rabbits along with fresh farm eggs and he loved chasing after his Grandkids and spending time with them.

He was loved by many and will be deeply missed.

He is survived by sons; Diego Cortez, Jr. (Tammy), George Cortez, Rene Cortez (Margaret), Ronnie Cortez (Stacey), Michael Cortez (Alicia); daughters, Amanda Delgado (Ysabel); Brandy Duenez (Geoffrey); brothers, Refugio Cortez, Jr., Jessie D. Cortez, Arthur Cortez, Arnold Cortez; sister, Clara Irene Cortez; 28 grandchildren as well as great and great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Nancy Cortez, daughter, Swan Cortez Flores; sister, Margaret DeLeon and Minerva Cortez.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 pm on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at Wheeler Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:00 Friday, August 18, 2023 at Wheeler Funeral Home with Jessie Cortez officiating.

Burial will follow at Holy Cross Memorial Park.

Pallbearers are Tyler Cortez, Nikko Cortez, Donavin Melchor, Devin Duenez, Tristan Cortez, Christian Martinez, Dakota Cortez and Ysabel Jr. Delgado. Honorary pallbearers are Renee Cortez, Jr., Eyan Cortez, Logan Herrera, Timothy Cortez, Anthony Cortez and Corey Cortez.
