Charles E. Petersen of El Campo passed away April 14, 2026 at the age of 94. He was born November 26, 1931 in El Campo to the late Emil G. Petersen and Lena Hoelscher Petersen.
Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. He was a Korean war veteran serving in the Army, member of American Legion and was an avid Astros fan. He enjoyed fishing and collecting items of interest.
Charles is survived by his wife of 69 ½ years, Charlene Hoffman Petersen; son, Neal Petersen; daughter, Brenda Thane (Michael); sister, Patsy Mauch; grandson, Tim Maxwell (Crystal) and great granddaughter, Anya Maxwell as well as numerous nieces, nephews cousins and other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by parents; sisters, Dorothy Prater, Velma Engstrom and brother, James Petersen.
Visitation for family and friends will begin at 9:00 am Thursday, April 16, 2026 at First Methodist Church with funeral service officiated by Pastor Richard Slaughter beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bradley Alford, Robert Alford, David Kunz, Gary Petersen, Rocky Hamman and Gary Lamberth. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Fredrickson, Gerald Ripple, Jimmy Nielsen and David Petersen.
